The 8th Dan of Judo Attributed to Vladimir Putin

Following the festivities of the 60th anniversary of the International Judo Federation, celebrated last year in Paris on the occasion of the World Championships, the IJF had the honor of awarding the 8th dan to Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, who was also celebrating his 60th birthday on the 7th of october.


Being the Honorary President of the IJF, an Emeritus and recognized judoka, and having the stature of the Head of State of a preeminent country, Vladimir Putin is the perfect ambassador for our sport.

"It is a great honor for our international federation, as well as for the entire judo community, to count among us a very high personality of his reputation and standing," said Marius L. Vizer, the IJF President, before adding: "President Putin represents a high expression of the Judo Values in the world."

Putin ist nicht die einzige einflußreiche Persönlichkeit der Welt, die mit einem hohen Judo-Dan ausgezeichnet wurde. Auch in Japan war diese "politische" Vergabe von Dangraden nicht ungewöhnlich.

Hier das wohl prominenteste Beispiel:
Matsutaro Shoriki (1885 - 1969) war der einzige Träger des 10. Dan, der kein professioneller Judoka war.
Er war u.a. Polizeidirektor, Präsident und später Eigentümer der Yomiuri Shimbunsha (Tageszeitung) und - wie der 25 Jahre ältere Jigoro Kano übrigens auch - Mitglied des "House of Peers". Shoriki startete die professionelle japanische Baseball-Liga und führte die erste kommerzielle jap. TV-Anstalt "Nippon Television Network Corporation". In Japan war der "Shoriki-Cup" über viele Jahre das größte internationale Turnier im Frauenjudo, vergleichbar mit dem "Kano-Cup" für die Männer.

„Born in Daimon, Toyama, Matsutarō Shōriki (正力 松太郎 Shōriki Matsutarō, April 11, 1885 – October 9, 1969) was classified as a "Class A" war criminal after the Second World War. In Korea, he is known as the mastermind behind the ethnic cleansing on Koreans in the Tokyo area in the immediate aftermath of the Great Kantō Earthquake of 1923 when he was a police bureaucrat in the capital.
Matsutarō Shōriki is also known as the father of Japanese professional baseball. He was a media mogul, owned the Yomiuri Shimbun, one of Japan's major daily newspapers, and founded Japan's first commercial television station, Nippon Television Network Corporation. He was also elected to the House of Representatives, appointed to the House of Peers and was one of the most successful judo masters ever, reaching the extremely rare rank of 10th Dan.“

Wir sehen: nicht nur Putin konnte sich als "Mann von Welt" mit hohen Judo-Dangraden schmücken.

Wenn mich jetzt nicht alles täuscht, hat Shoriki den 6. und den 8. Dan übersprungen. Außerdem hat er m.W. seine Privatschatulle für den Bau von Sportanlagen (u.a. dem Nippon Budokan) sehr weit geöffnet....

Im Gegensatz dazu scheint Putin ja den 3., 4., 5. und jetzt den 7. Dan übersprungen zu haben. Das war mir neu, ich war ursprünglich noch in dem Irrglauben gefangen, dass grundsätzlich immer nur der nächst höhere Dan verliehen werden kann....

das hat Kano aber auch schon nicht zwanghaft linear gemacht, von daher ist der Gedanke, dass man jede Stufe erst "absitzen" muss vielleicht ein wenig europäisch
