I did not know the man personally and have never met him. However, I know his books and they must have served thousands of people in their study of kata, not just in Germany, as they were easy to follow also for people who could not read or understand German. you could see that he always had a desire to know more about the background of many things in judo and that he was eager to share his knowledge and experience with others. I am sorry to hear that he has passed away and I offer my condolences to his family, friends and former students.
